Choosing a Video Card Part 2 : Desired Output Type

Video card output is directly related to the computer monitor. So that kind of output from the video card is determined by the type of monitor or monitor cable is used to connect the video card to the monitor. For now at least there are two types of output from the commonly used video card. Both of these output types have different data transmission system: the way of an analog transmission and digital transmission method. To monitor CRT or tube usually use the analog transmission, while the LCD screen using a digital transmission. But not everything is so, there is also a CRT that receives digital data transmission method of video cards.

For analog data transmission known as VGA (Video Graphics Adapter) or VGA port. How to analog data transmission has become standard since 1987. During this time, the standard VGA is good enough to use for CRT monitors with standard resolution. However, with the development of technology, particularly the development of the need for image resolution and refresh rate on the computer monitor that the higher, standard VGA is starting to find his weakness. For high-resolution images and high refresh rates, the quality of the image displayed on the monitor is lowered.

The new data transmission standards is a digital way. This standard is known as DVI (Digital Visual Interface) or DVI port. Digital standard is intended to replace standard VGA analog or weaknesses that have to transmit data with high resolution. By using the DVI standard, the picture quality is not affected anymore by the resolution and refresh rate. Resolution and high refresh rate will not reduce the quality of the image displayed on the computer monitor. LCD monitor is now usually use digital data standards. There are only a few traditional LCD screens are still using analog data transmission.

If the standard VGA analog or there is only one standard, the standard for digital data transmission there are some standards that are commonly used. Standard analog only have one type or the type of connector as the DB-15, then to a standard DVI there are manifold DVI-I and DVI-D. The difference between DVI-I and DVI-D is a DVI-I port can be used to monitor analog and digital monitors, while DVI-D can only be used for digital monitors.

In the DVI standard must also is the number of links. There is a single-link DVI with the manifold and there is a double link. The resolution affects the number of links that can be displayed on the monitor screen. For a single link, the maximum resolution that can be achieved is 1600 × 1200. While the link can double for resulisi screen on it.

In addition to the DVI port, is also called to the HDMI port. The HDMI port with a DVI port using a standard digital data transmission. The difference for HDMI can be used or linked to a high-resolution monitor or LCD panel that has multimedia (besides video / image, also can transmit as well as audio / voice).

In selecting a video card related to the type of monitor used, it is better if you choose a card that has standard video digitally or have a DVI port. Although the monitor used is analog monitor, it's good to choose a video card that has a DVI port and a VGA port. For many video cards currently available, there are many video cards that include a DVI port VGA port as well. So this video card can be used for two types of monitors.
